这是由1864年美国内战时反奴隶士兵约瑟夫·胡佛所保存的日记拍成的电影。约瑟夫胡佛为反奴隶联盟而战却不幸被捕并送到战俘营。约瑟夫在一场血腥战役中被捕，被抓到格鲁吉亚的安德森维尔战俘营。他们订定逃跑计划，虽然逃离敌营的守卫但是因为没有武器，没有食物，也没有野外求生的知识，他们存活的机率为零。
